Since Jeopardy‘s longtime host, Alex Trebek passed away last year after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer at 80-years-old, there has been a passing interest in who will replace the famed host on the show. Following his death, people had started to speculate — and suggest — about who will replace the iconic host. In the midst of all of this, Star Trek actor and Reading Rainbow host, LeVar Burton, was thrown into the mix as fans started a petition to have him become the next host of the famed game show.

9 months later, after several guest hosts taking the helm of the popular show, network officials had come to a decision to bypass Burton and a host of others to officially name the show’s executive producer, Mike Richards as the permanent, as well as Blossom and The Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik for guest-hosting duties.

This caused a major uproar among the Jeopardy faithful.

Burton took it in stride as he thanked supporters for pulling for him to get the job.

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay may have something cooking for the actor who found instant fame in Alex Haley’s The Roots’ miniseries in 1977. The Selma director sent out a Tweet that is sure to strike up interest in what will come out of it.

To which Burton quickly replied:

Hopefully, we will soon find out what happened when DuVernay hit up Burton’s DM!
