Fat Joe Lands Pilot Show on Starz, Joins Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs as Executive Producers With LeBron James Producing

Bronx-bred recording artist, Fat Joe was the executive producer of last night’s BET Hip Hop Awards and made a revelation to People magazine.  He told the media outlet that he tried to get Will Smith to not only make an appearance but to take the stage as The Fresh Prince.

The “Lean Back” rapper felt it would have been a coup if he had gotten him to come through. It’s been nearly two years since Smith shocked the world when he struck comedian Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022.

“You know who I didn’t successfully get was Will Smith,” Fat Joe told the media outlet. “I was really trying to get Will Smith to come out and do ‘Summer Time.'”

Although it would have been a surprise if he had pulled it off, Smith turned it down. But he has an excellent and viable reason. “He’s filming Bad Boys,” Fat Joe said. “But we tried. We try to pull off a miracle if we can. We try to pull a cloud out of the sky.”

Before the show aired on BET, he promised that it would be “sick” in his return as the host of the award show.

“It’s going to be sick. Overall it’s a dream come true for me. It’s the second year I’m doing the Hip Hop Awards, but I always think back to being in junior high and doing the talent shows and then Apollo Theater Amateur Night, and it all leads to this. And so it’s an honor for me.”

Fat Joe just recently returned to his hometown borough of the Bronx to donate over $100,000 in clothing to kids for the current school year. ABC 7 NY reported that the rapper headed back to his neighborhood and donated items such as sweatsuits, tracksuits, t-shirts, shorts, and sneakers on Sept. 2 as he hosted a back-to-school clothing drive at The Eagle Academy for Young Men.
