Jordan Peele is on board to produce the sequel to Candyman as reported by Deadline.
Little Woods writer and director Nia DaCosta is slated to direct the movie from a screenplay written by Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions’ partner, Win Rosenfeld.
‘The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre. Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as filmmaker,’ Peele said in a statement. ‘To have a bold new talent like Nia at the helm of this project is truly exciting.’
Tony Todd played Candyman aka Daniel Robitaille in the original.
Universal Pictures plans to release the film June 12, 2020.
