The crooning of “I moved from my old house, and I moved from my old friends,” loops across Kev’s composition, as he and his V Records label mate, MC-producer, Niko Brim, sermonize their truths over a bounce beat with crisp bars.
Brim hails from Mount Vernon and believes “Black women are the cornerstones” — something he rhymed throughout his last single, “Hard to believe,” which tackles the nation’s harsh realities. He performed during Rapsody’s tour and currently serves as an ambassador alongside 93-year old Ms. Opal Lee for the national petition to make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday.
Niko Brim’s mother is legendary fashion stylist Misa Hylton. A new Netflix documentary, “The Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion,” details her culture-defining story. Brim, with his siblings, stars in the visual campaign for Misa’s new MCM fashion collection in celebration of the film.
