LeBron James Responds to Critics Accusing Dwyane Wade of Nepotism After Son Zaire Is Signed to NBA Team’s G League Affiliate

Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James came to the defense of one of his best friends from the basketball arena.

One of his ‘Banana Boat Crew’ members (Comprised of former Miami Heat Dwyane Wade, Los Angeles Lakers Carmelo Anthony, and Phoenix Suns Chris Paul) Wade, is part owner of the Utah Jazz. Last week, it was reported that Wade’s son, Zaire had been signed to the G League and will purportedly be playing for the Jazz’s affiliate team, the Salt Lake City Stars. When the news was released, immediately, charges of nepotism sat upon the lips of critics because, although Zaire had been highly sought by numerous NCAA colleges, the fact that he is Dwyane’s son was the reason they felt he had been signed.

Zaire was also a teammate of James’ son, Bronny and James refers to Dwyane’s son as his nephew so the relationship with Zaire is a close one due to the fathers being best friends and the sons being good friends and teammates.

James went to his Instagram Story over the weekend to congratulate his “nephew” and defend the charges levied against Dwayne.

“Proud of you nephew. Keep going and F the haters. They ain’t [poop emoji] anyway.”

“Love to see it,” James wrote in a subsequent post. “Proud of my nephew journey because he traveled it his way. Happy as hell for my brother DWade cause I know how much he want to see it happen 4 him on his own terms! Black excellence you haters!!”

Earlier this year, Dwyane Wade became part owner of the Utah Jazz back in April.

“As a businessman, entrepreneur, and investor, I bring a lot to this partnership outside of my basketball experience,” Wade said. “I’m excited to help take the Utah Jazz to the next level.”

Before accusations of nepotism surface, it should be noted that 19-year-old Zaire has been making noise in the high school basketball scene ever since he became a member of Sierra Canyon High School, located in California. Zaire played alongside another future NBA Hall of Famer’s son, LeBron James Jr., referred to as Bronny.

According to The Spun, Zaire, a three-star combo guard, chose to attend Brewster Academy in New Hampshire for a post-grad year as he looked over whatever options he would have for pursuing a career playing basketball. Although the guard received several offers from a handful of college programs, he has decided to go the route of signing with the G-League to give himself the best chance to make an NBA team.
