Who is BIG CED?

BIG CED is a fixture in the classic NY Hip Hop music industry. He is a good guy and a cool dude to know. He knows EVERYONE, very well connected and is still doing his thing in the industry.

I’ve had the pleasure and some displeasure knowing Big Ced for the better half of 40 years! I’ve watched him create himself several dozen times for various reasons both professionally and personally. I’ve seen him change for family, for women, for work, for school & by choice. I could call him an innovator, I could call him a copycat, I have called him a promoter, an enthusiast, a writer, and a knucklehead and that was all on the same day. He’s been very fortunate with relationships that have allowed him to continue to rise to many varied occasions & He has not allowed the naysayers & detractors to destroy how great he is to himself or how great he could be in real life. He’s a pretty good friend, when he’s not giving advice, he’s a damn good son, but not always a good brother. He has taken shots, knots, go aways and plenty of Hell No Ced…but like the famous Timex slogan…he has kept on ticking…he’s A King In His Own Right or Mind…and he’s sometimes just too much…but when given the opportunity to do good with lil to say & lots of huffing, puffing and yawns…he’s a good guy with personality & wit to match! He’s a team player with the right team or a leader when asked to be so! Given the chance after he’s exhausted your patience…give him a little more time and the project he’s been entrusted to do will shine & prove his true worth! Ceds a good guy & a great friend! That is Big Ced when all is Ced and done! (Drops Mic & jumps out closest window!)

Before there was social media, you had Big Ced, a gatherer of people. He is more than a promoter or socialite. He hand picked people he liked or felt had some value and invited them to local bars, restaurants, night clubs, sporting events and various other places they probably had never been.
His ability to bring ground breaking thinkers, music artists, athletes, directors, models and moguls together is quite unique. Even in 2016, he continues to collect a eclectic group of movers and shakers.
I imagine he believes in you, before you believe in yourself.
He is a pioneering writer on the internet, before the word blogger and continues to use the platform to make social change.

I honestly don’t know for sure. He is someone I crossed paths with over 20 years ago as I started my career in this black entertainment industry. He was the first person to offer me a feature profiling me as a new member of the industry on The Industry Co-Sign. He was and is funny, crazy, annoying overzealous, overbearingly braggadocios about his appearance in the MC Lyte video back in the day. He is someone with whom you never skip a beat; no matter how long it’s been since the last time you’ve clasped hands or shared a warm hello. It’s as if you’re picking up a conversation from yesterday. He never forgets you for an invitation to a birthday party (not sure if that’s a money making scheme or not) but he makes sure that your name is on the list. Seemingly a touch self-centered, he’s just extremely aware of his worth and knows that this industry always deserves better. He is a veritable living, breathing archive of urban entertainment history. His lisp is ever present; his laugh is contagious; he is always smiling. An all-around good person to know. Well connected (and we’re talking real connections here not just social media) and willing to share those connections with you. Because he knows that’s how we move forward. Together. I’m happy to know him in as much as I do. And although I know I don’t see him often, I’m positive he’ll never treat me like a stranger. Ever.
