NFL Wide Receiver Zay Jones Arrested On Misdemeanor Domestic Battery Charge

Another current NFL player has been arrested on accusations of domestic violence.

The Associated Press has reported that wide receiver Zay Jones, who is currently playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars was reportedly arrested Monday evening, Nov. 11 on a charge of domestic battery causing bodily harm, according to Duval County Jail records. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office police officers detained Jones and booked him into jail at around 6:30 p.m. It is considered to be a first-degree misdemeanor. No details were revealed on the incident nor who was involved.

The 28-year-old Jones is supposed to appear in court on Tuesday, Nov. at 9:00 a.m.

The Jaguars released a statement acknowledging their knowledge of the arrest.

“We are aware of the situation and are in the midst of gathering information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

If Jones is convicted of the first-degree misdemeanor, he will be facing a sentence of up to 180 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine. He may also have to pay court costs, and restitution, and/or be given probation, treatment, and/or community service.

Zay Jones, whose full name is Isaiah Avery Jones is currently nursing a knee injury as he has not played in the last four games. For the current season, the lingering knee soreness has caused him to miss six out of the last seven games. He has caught eight passes for 78 yards while scoring two touchdowns thus far. He’s been in the NFL for seven years playing for the Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Oakland and Las Vegas Raiders. Over those years he has 261 catches for 2,785 yards and 59 touchdowns.

According to Fox Sports Radio, Jones had a phenomenal season last year when he recorded career totals with 82 receptions, leading to a total of 823 yards. Adding the five touchdowns he scored making it his second-highest touchdown total while tying a career-best 15 games as a starter in 2022.

Jones inked a three-year, $24 million contract with the Jaguars in March 2022.

The wide receiver played his collegiate career at East Carolina where he still holds NCAA Division I records for career receptions (399) and single-season receptions (158).
